What’s On Your Summer Reading List? Here are Our Picks!
Summer is a perfect opportunity to spend some time whittling down that long “to be read” list. Taking along a book or your Kindle while traveling or listening to audible books on long trips make recreational reading very convenient. Also, the hot weather makes it a good time to spend lounging in the shade or in a favorite place indoors with a good book. We have put together a list of titles that we plan to read or listen to this summer. Check out our list and you may find one you would like to read also. If you already have a summer reading list ready then please drop us a comment below to share yours! We are always looking for great books to add to our lists!

I love a great mystery, and Agatha Christie is one of my all-time favorite authors. A friend of mine recommended this book to me and compared Foley’s style and ability to build suspense to Christie. That’s high praise, so I feel like this has to be on my must-read list this summer. I’m also excited to read it because I really enjoy books with multiple perspectives, and I’ve heard that is a big part of what makes this book exceptional. A couple years ago, a friend gave me a scratch off poster of 100 books to read in a lifetime. I’ve been reading through that list since then. The next book I plan to read and scratch off is The Alchemist. That book is on most lists of great modern classics, and this year is the 25th anniversary. I’ve heard such great things about it, and I feel like now is the perfect time to pick it up. Also, Jeremy Irons is the reader on the new audiobook, so I think this might be one I listen to rather than read. (Click the book image or the title above to view or purchase on Amazon.)

I discovered Charles Martin when I read The Mountain Between Us years ago. This book, The Record Keeper, is his most recent novel, and the third book in his Murphy Shepard series. Murphy Shepard is a noble and selfless man, with a particular set of skills, who “leaves the ninety nine to save the one.” If you haven’t read Charles Martin books I do recommend them; this series especially. It would be best to read this series in order: The Water Keeper, The Letter Keeper, and then this one. The Record Keeper will be released on July 5. This is a sequel to The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. I loved that book. The historical account of The Pack Horse Librarians (established in the New Deal in the 1930’s) in extremely rural Kentucky is intriguing. The main character, who is strong, courageous, compassionate, and determined, goes to any measure to get books into the hands of the people she serves. She is from the line of Blue People From Kentucky, who have a blood disorder that causes their skin to be blue. The heroine endures hardship and discrimination yet continues to persevere. I highly recommend the first book and I cannot wait to read this sequel. (Click the book image or the title above to view or purchase on Amazon.)

I absolutely loved this author’s first novel Evvie Drake Starts Over. It was a very charming book yet also had a realistic tone. So when I saw that Linda Holmes has a new book coming out this summer, I immediately added it to my “must read” list. If this new novel is anything like her first one, then I know the characters will grab me from the beginning. I read so many books, and I admit that I don’t always remember what I read. However, Evvie Drake Starts Over is a book I still think about two years after reading it. I’m hoping for the same result with this one. Flying Solo will be released on June 14th, 2022. As a huge fan of historical fiction, I have read all of Beatriz Williams and Lauren Willig’s books. I have also read a few of Karen White’s novels as well. The Lost Summers of Newport is their fourth collaborative writing effort. I enjoyed the first three they have written together, so I have high confidence I will love this one too. It is written as three stories intertwined together yet all tied to the same Newport, RI mansion. Having toured some of the summer “cottages” in Newport during a trip to New England, I am looking forward to revisiting the area via this book. This title releases on May 17th, 2022.
