This is a recipe that has been in my family for years, and it is always a winner. It is especially great when you want a delicious burger without having to grill outside. BBQ hamburgers fit the definition of a comforting meal. Read on for some helpful hints on how to make them along with the recipe.
Helpful Hints When Making this Tasty Twist on Hamburgers
Here are some tips to keep in mind when you make BBQ hamburgers:
- When chopping the onion, make sure you end up with a fine dice. Check out how to easily dice an onion here from the Simply Recipes site. I use this method all the time.
- Don’t overmix the meat with the onions and soaked bread crumbs similar to the process of making meatloaf or meatballs. This prevents your hamburgers from becoming tough.
- Ensure a good sear on the patties. This will help the burgers hold their shape while cooking in the sauce later.
- To get the perfect sear, place patties in a hot pan and don’t touch them for at least two minutes. This gives time for the meat to develop the sear.
- Line your baking pan with aluminum foil for easy cleanup after baking.
- You may not need all of the sauce to cover the hamburgers. You want the patties covered but not drowning in the sauce.
- Toast the hamburger buns to give a little extra structure to your sandwich.
- This recipe scales up or down very easily.
- Any of your typical sides for hamburgers like chips and potato salad work well with this recipe. Or for a slightly fancier side, why not try out our recipe for The Best Broccoli Cauliflower Salad Recipe!
- These make great leftovers. All you have to do is toast more buns and heat the patties in a microwave.
