Want to Make Someone’s Day? Here’s an Easy Way!
When is the last time you received a handwritten letter in the mail? Or even a short handwritten note? It’s always a good day when you receive one. I’m on a mission to revive the lost art of writing letters. This is a great way to brighten someone’s day. It’s also an easy and thoughtful way to stay connected especially during the pandemic.
The Excitement of Opening a Letter
I’m one of those people who never throws away cards or letters, because it means so much to me when someone takes the time to send one. My heart always speeds up a little when I see an address written by hand waiting in my mailbox. Just the anticipation alone brings joy to my day along with getting mail that is not a bill or junk mail.
Imagine how much receiving a letter during these days of separation due to the pandemic would mean to someone. Make someone’s day brighter and dig out your pen and paper!
Do You Remember These?
Who remembers the old fashioned post office boxes? I remember going with my grandmother to check her box and feeling very grown up when she let me turn the dial to open it up.
When our local post office upgraded years ago to the more modern style of boxes that use keys, the old fashioned boxes were preserved. I was so happy to receive one as a gift.
It sits proudly on my shelf displayed next to family pictures. I love having this reminder of my grandparents. And it is especially fitting since I live in the home my great-grandparents built.

The Handwritten Letter Challenge
My challenge to those of you reading this post is to write at least one handwritten letter or notecard in the next month. Help someone to have a good day by sending a letter through the mail. Not only will you brighten the recipient’s day, but also you will likely inspire them to do the same.
If you have a favorite source for stationery, please drop me a comment below. I’m always on the lookout to add to my paper collection!

I agree! I make it point to handwrite thank you notes with my kids when we receive gifts. As much as it feels like a chore for them (and let’s be honest, me too sometimes!), I think it’s so important that they understand how much it means to the gifter. Thanks to my mom for instilling that in me!
As a kid, I wrote tons of letters back and forth with my friends and cousins, and those letters mean so much to me now. I am also a saver of cards and letters! My oldest has started writing pen pal letters to her friends while remote schooling. I hope it continues when they are back in school!
This makes my day to read your comment! I’m so we are on the same page (pun intended!). That is so sweet that your daughter is writing pen pal letters while remote schooling. That is such a great idea. – Kristin
I have actually wanted to do this since Jan of 2021.
I accept the challenge!
Thanks for encouraging me to take action and make someone’s day .
I’m so glad to hear you’ve accepted the challenge! Thanks Cheryal! – Kristi
