Simple Self-Care You’ll Love: Silk and Sonder Journal Review
Self-care has become a big topic for me in the past couple years. I’m a busy mom of three, sometimes my job is stressful, and I just found myself feeling like there wasn’t enough of “me” in my life. It’s so easy to feel guilty to indulge in “me time,” but I’ve come to realize that it is so important. However, just because I think it matters doesn’t mean I have a lot of time to devote to my self-care, and to be honest, I didn’t really know where to start. I’ve tried apps and other journals in the past, but nothing stuck.
But ya’ll, this. Silk and Sonder hooked me. You get a new journal every month. It’s personalized. It’s pretty. You can adjust the pages to fit what you need, use the ones you like, and even decide not to use the ones you don’t need. And there is an app that goes with it that gives you access to a while variety of fun and uplifting content to keep you going and connect you to others like you. Keep reading to hear more about the journal, the app, and everything I love about the whole experience.
The Monthly Journal
My favorite part of the journal was the weekly layout pages. Across the top, each day has a box labeled “one thing.” I used mine to write down a highlight from each day. Some other ideas I saw on posts by other members of S & S on the app included a quote each day, a bible verse, a focus word, or a must-do task.
Each day also has a big notes section for you to fill however you like. I used mine for a prayer list, gratitudes, and one to-do for the next day, but you can use it however you want.
Another page I loved was the habit tracker. This was pretty amazing for anyone trying to make progress on goals. It really helped me to see where I am making progress and where I’m not and kept me motivated. It also helped me to reflect on why certain habits are easy to instill in myself and others are not. Also, the little colorful wheel was just fun to fill out every day.
I stuck with entirely personal habits this month, but next month I’m planning to focus on work a little more since it’s a big month for me professionally.
Though the habit tracker and the “One Thing” pages were the main ones I used every day, there are so many great activities in the journal:
- September Reflections and October Goals Pages
- A Color-In Mood Tracker that I also loved
- Writing activities like Journal Prompts and a Letter Writing Activity
- Fun activities like a Coloring Page and a Leaf Observation Activity
- A Recipe
- Other trackers for expenses, sleep, meal-planning, etc. if you choose to use them
- Activities for the focus of the month, which for this month was patience
- And of course, a monthly calendar and a page for planning each week
The Silk and Sonder App
My favorite thing about the journal is the options you have, how you can personalize it to fit you. The same is true for the app. It offers a lot of options that you can pick and choose from. There is a daily affirmation and a daily ritual that I chose to do this month. The daily affirmations help you to practice positive self-talk. The Daily Ritual is a 5-8 minute audio clip that is released every day Monday-Friday to guide you in reflection. All the topics were varied but loosely connected, and though I might not do those every month, I actually enjoyed listening every day to help me get started.
There are a lot of other great features in the app that I hope to explore more next month.
- Self-Care Bingo: These fun little bingo boards help you to “check off” when you do something for your happiness or well-being. I started using the one specifically for moms late in the month, but I’m excited to start fresh in November with a new board.
- Galleries: There is a space in the app to share how you use your pages. This acutally really helped me to repurpose some pages I wasn’t using later in the month. I loved being able to see other people’s ideas and approaches to using their journals.
- Sonder Club: This is a space to comment on a daily question and interact socially with other members. I haven’t commented much, but it seems like a welcoming space and the interactions I read were positive (which is refreshing in today’s world of social media).
- Sonder Socials: These are actual live virtual events you can join for free where you can talk and interact with other Silk and Sonder members while being guided through one or more pages of your journal. I’ve signed up for the November setup, so I’m excited to see what that’s like.
What I Love: Easy and Personalized Self-Care
If you are someone who likes to keep a journal or a planner, you will probably love Silk and Sonder for the journal aspect. If you spend a lot of time on your phone and you enjoy using social media, you’ll probably like the app. Honestly, I think just about everyone can get something out of it if you are interested in being more organized with your self-care. It’s really versatile and you can really make it fit what you need, which is what I love most about it.
How to Get Started
If you think Silk and Sonder might be right for you, it’s easy to get started. As I write this post, you can still get November if you want to start right away.
If you are interested in trying it, click here to get 10% off your first order.
Even without the 10% off, the journals are a good value for everything you get. Normally, journals can be purchased monthly for $20. Or you can go ahead and purchase quarterly for $18 per journal or annually for $14.90 per journal.
I’ve already looked through my November journal and I’m excited to keep going. This has worked for me, and if you decide to try it, I hope you’ll drop me a comment and let me know to look for you in Sonder Club.
