It’s a Great Day for a Beach Day at Home!
Summer beach days are some of my favorite days. It’s fun for the kids and the adults to have that time to enjoy the sand, water, and sunshine. If you or your kiddos are pining away for a visit to the beach soon then how about having a fun beach day at home and enjoy all the fun without all the packing and traveling? Check out the ideas in this post for some simple ways to give you and your kids a beach break!

Activities for Your Beach Day at Home
Sand Play
It’s hard to imagine a beach day without some sand play. Did you know that you can buy bags of play sand at Home Depot? I learned this a few years ago when I was making a sandbox for my grandson. The sandbox is simply a small plastic pool filled with the play sand and random toys, containers, and scoops. This easy set up brings many hours of fun and makes a perfect addition to a beach day at home. If you don’t want a large sandbox you can use an underbed sized storage tub for sand play.
Water Play
For your beach day at home you will definitely want some type of water play. You can make it as simple or as extra as you want it to be. There are many outdoor water play products available online and in stores or it can be as simple as a small pool or water play in a small plastic bin. You can even have waterplay indoors with a sink and float activity or by using toy figures, water in a plastic tub, and a few towels. Kids will love any activity if it involves water!
Snack Time
For snack time, spread out the beach towels on the floor or in an outdoor spot. Then bring on some ‘beachy’ snacks. Again, it can be as simple as some Goldfish Crackers and finger sandwiches cut with ocean themed cutters. You can also make the snack part of the activities by having them make one of these fun snacks to enjoy.
- Beach Day Graham Crackers from Cutefetti.com: These adorable beach theme crackers are easy for children to make and so tasty for a beach day snack.
- Teddy at the Beach Cupcakes from bettycrocker.com: These cupcakes are sure to be a hit and there is no limit to the decorating the kids will come up with. Of course, a cute paper umbrella decoration is a must!
- Octopus Hot Dogs from Wikihow: These octopus hot dogs are an easy and fun way to make a quick ocean themed lunch. The website suggests boiling the hot dogs but I would cook mine in a hot pan. They taste better that way in my opinion.
- Beachy Sweet and Salty Snack Mix (with Printable!): This easy, beachy trail mix will be a great snack to have on hand during a beach day at home. You can add in whatever small snacks you want to suit you and your kiddos preferences.
Beach Craft Time
Kids always love creating and making crafts. There are lots of beach themed craft kits like the ones pictured above that would be great fun for children. If you want to keep it simple provide light blue construction paper and crayons for kids to draw an underwater scene with sea creatures, mermaids, etc. If all you have is white paper have them draw the scene in crayon and then paint over it with a light wash of blue watercolor paint. Movie Time
Here are a few beach themed movies but many others are available with a simple search. This would be a nice quiet time for everyone on your beach day.
Story Time
There is a huge assortment of books that are beach themed available for any age child. Books are always a great addition to any family fun day!
Beach Day Sing Along
- Music and Songs: Beach and Ocean: Kids songs with a beach theme that are sung to familiar tunes.
- The 30 Best Songs About the Beach: If you want to download your own beach day playlist here is a list from southernliving.com that includes some of the best beach songs to include.
- Disney’s Sing Along Songs: Beach Party at Walt Disney World DVD: This collection of beach party songs will have the kiddos singing along with the DVD.
- Disney’s The Little Mermaid Greatest Hits CD: Songs from the movie.
- Baby Shark Sing-Alongs: Cute ocean songs with a baby shark theme in a playable book.
Beach Day Decorations
We know that details make the difference so plan to decorate for your beach day with a few purchased items or let your children make some decorations. Remember, your beach day at home can be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be. Whatever you choose to do it is sure to bring some beach fun into your family fun day! Have fun!
