How to Make the Most of Your Grown Up Disney Vacation
Disney World is my favorite place on earth. I liked going to Disney as a child, but it wasn’t until I went as an adult that a really fell in love with the place. My husband and I went on our honeymoon, and we’ve been back several times since. Most recently, we went over our spring break in April. Though we usually bring our kids along these days, we were so excited to have some adult time, and you might be surprised to learn that Disney World is one of the best places to vacation with adults! Read on for five things you should do to make sure your Disney vacation is absolutely perfect!
These are perfect for Disney World. I bought them for my recent trip and loved them!
Do Your Research
Before leaving, I highly recommend doing your research on all Disney has to offer. There is so much to do beyond what people usually think of, but to make the most and “get it all in,” you have to plan ahead. Dining options open 60 days in advance, so be sure to grab up reservations to the best places to eat (more on that in a bit). And make sure you read up on Genie+ and Lightning Lanes.
To make the most of your vacations, think about when you’d like to go. There are ideal times of year for adults, such as the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival (pictured), and HollyWood Studios Star Wars Weekends. Also, read up on what’s new and what’s recommended at Disney World. Here are some of my favorite Disney World blogs and planning sites. I especially love The Disney Tourist Blog for all the most up to date info and Disney Dream Co. for amazing free printables and planning advice.
Enjoy the Food
Disney has some amazing food! There are so many great restaurants. From rooftop dining at California Grille to an immersive experience at Space 220, there are lots of special dining experiences that adults will love. Check out Ohana for a Polynesian treat that allows you to watch the fireworks from your table if you go at the right time. Grab the perfect steak at Le Cellier or the perfect pizza at Via Napoli in EPCOT. Or, my favorite, eat your way around the world in EPCOT. Stop at several food stands and choose something fun to try at each one. And the more adults you have with you, the better. Share around and find a new favorite food each time you visit!

Drink Up
One thing a lot of people don’t know is that Disney has some of the most unique places anywhere to grab a drink you can’t get anywhere else. And there aren’t any regular bars in Disney World, every one is an experience. A couple of my favorites are Jellyrolls Dueling Piano Bar at Port Orleans Resort and The Edison, a speakeasy at Disney Springs. And if you really want your some extra Disney fun while you wet your whistle, check out Oga’s Cantina, a fun drink spot in Hollywood Studios themed like the cantina in Star Wars: A New Hope, or Trader Sam’s at the Polynesian Resort, where every order triggers a new experience. And if you prefer non-alchoholic drinks, all of these places have options for you so you can enjoy the fun too!
Invest in Unique Disney Experiences
Disney has lots of special experiences that are perfect for adults who want to connect with their inner child or experience things you just can’t do anywhere else. On our last trip, my husband and I got to ride Tron Lightcycle Run on it’s opening day, and that was a really fun experience. We also rode the monorail over to the Grand Floridian to view the entries in the chocolate egg decorating contest.
Disney always has something amazing to do. In Hollywood Studios, you can build your own lightsaber (and I highly recommend this if you are a Star Wars Fan). For the right price, you can do a backstage tour, see the safari animals up close, or you can even have dinner with an Imagineer. Whether it’s something you have to pay for or that is free with admission, ask cast members what Disney has going on that you can check out and then invest your time in making those unique memories.

Plan a "Day Off" for Fun Outside the Parks
Take a break from the parks in the middle of your vacation to have a more laid back kind of day for everyone to rest and recharge. On that day, check out some of Disney’s other offerings that you might not know about. Disney has some incredible water parks, world-class spas, unique pools, beautiful golf courses, and a massive shopping and entertainment hub in Disney Springs.
I hope next time you’re thinking about where to go with your honey or your friends or whatever “big kids” are in your life, you’ll consider Disney World.
