How to Make Taco Tuesday Even Better!
Have a Fun "Dragons Love Tacos" Book Themed Taco Night
The kids in your life will love this twist on Taco Tuesday by incorporating the hilarious Dragons Love Tacos book by Adam Rubin and illustrated by Daniel Salmieri. If you haven’t heard of this cute children’s book, then you are missing out. It is one of my very favorite books for children. It’s about dragons who love tacos and what happens if they eat spicy salsa. This is also a fun twist on celebrating Cinco de Mayo if you have younger kids.
A couple of years ago I helped plan a fun Dragons Love Tacos party for our local library children’s summer reading program. I’m sharing some of the highlights from this party, so you can be inspired. I’ve also included some links to a few party details to make it easy to have your own Dragons Love Tacos themed taco night.

"Dragons Love Tacos" Party Highlights
The Dragon Books
If you don’t already own the book Dragons Love Tacos, then check out a copy from your local library or click here to purchase your own copy.
There is also a second book called Dragons Love Tacos 2: The Sequel. You can purchase a copy of the second book by clicking here. This book is all about what happens when the world runs out of tacos! Needless to say, the dragons are very upset about it.
If you’d like to purchase the set of two books, click on the image pictured or here.
Dragon and Flame Decorations
A Dragons Love Tacos dinner requires dragons of course. If your kids already have dragon toys, then add those to the dinner table. If you need a dragon (or two or three) like the one pictured then you can purchase here from Amazon.
You also need some fire. An easy way to add some “flames” to your dinner table is to use yellow, orange, and red tissue paper. Stack the three colors together and then cut tissue paper sheets in half. Grasp stacked half sheets in one hand and pull upwards with other hand to fashion the flames. You can then use them as table decorations scattered around or set one “flame” at each place setting.
A Taco Cave
If you want to go the extra mile, then make a Taco Cave like the one in the book. If you don’t want to make a full size decoration like the one pictured, you can scale it down to use as a centerpiece on the dinner table.
I was lucky enough to find taco cutouts from the dollar store to use in my Taco Cave. You can also find a taco graphic online and print them out, cut, and adhere to your Taco Cave. Another cute idea would be to make the cave table top sized and have the platter of tacos coming out of it.

Taco About a Fun Family Dinner or Party
Taco Tuesday can become more than just a night you eat tacos. These ideas can help you create a memorable evening with your family. If you are inspired to take it a step further and turn it into a birthday party, check out this link for a Dragons Love Tacos party from Young House Love. It has even more cute inspiration based on these adorable children’s books. I especially like her idea of cutting up Airheads candy into spike shapes and adding to the top of cupcakes to mimic dragons.
Not really a fan of tacos? Or are you looking for something a little different to eat on Taco Tuesday? Then try out Karen’s Santa Fe Soup Recipe here that is Tex-Mex perfection in a bowl. Or try a different take on tacos: taco pie! Get the recipe here.
No day (or dinner) has to be ordinary! Take any favorite book or theme and turn a family weeknight dinner into something super memorable.
Have a good day –
