Five Ways to Elevate Your Everyday Dinnertime
Theme Nights
Theme nights are an easy way to elevate your dinner and take it from ordinary to extraordinary. The sky is the limit for what you can build a theme around for mealtime. Here are a few suggestions:
- Choose a country and have a Mexican, Chinese, Italian, Indian, etc. menu. Check out our Wonderful World Travel Activities for Kids (Without Leaving Home!) for inspiration for country themed food ideas.
- Have a board game night and serve snack food while playing your favorite games. Our The Best Board Games for Big Family Fun post is filled with great ideas for age appropriate board games.
- Pick a favorite sport for a theme night. Make plans to watch a baseball game and have hot dogs, peanuts, etc. Or plan a tailgate party at home with ideas from our Five Ways to Make Game Day Saturdays the Greatest! post.
New Recipes
Try new recipes to elevate your everyday dining. We all have cookbooks or recipes saved to Pinterest that we want to try out but never have. Be adventurous and open a cookbook to a random page to choose your new recipe. Do this in advance to give yourself time to get any necessary ingredients. Need inspiration for new cookbooks to try? Cook Together
Plan an evening to cook together. Make it a family night and get your kids involved in age appropriate cooking activities. Even the youngest family member can stir or add toppings to a pizza. Make it even more special by getting aprons and chef hats for everyone.
You can also invite friends over for an evening of cooking together. Make a plan to try out new kitchen skills together or have a cooking competition. Read our How to Make Competition Worthy Chili at Home post and look for our fun ideas on hosting a chili cookoff at home.
Eat Takeout on the Good China
Use the good china to eat your Chinese takeout or pizza delivery. Don’t let the good china collect dust in the cabinet; use it! My parents began using their wedding china as their everyday dishes several years ago and haven’t regretted it for a minute.
If you don’t have fine china, then check out estate sales or thrift stores. You don’t have to spend a fortune to add this easy way to elevate the everyday. Another great source is Replacements, Ltd. As a china addict, I love to visit this website just to browse all the different china patterns.
Eat Dessert First
Eating dessert first is the simplest way to elevate your everyday mealtime. Kids and grownups alike won’t object to eating dessert before dinner. Pick up something from a favorite bakery or plan to make ice cream sundaes. You could also make cookies together and eat them before your meal. Try our popular peanut butter cookie recipe or our chocolate oatmeal drop cookies for an easy option.
Adding Joy to Your Day Is Easy
