Happy Hobby Time: Online Acrylic Painting Lessons
Hobbies are such fun. The great thing is that there are many various hobbies to suit any interest or creative desire. Since my children are now grown, I have found that I want to explore some new hobbies or go back to some that I have let go. One of those hobbies is painting. I took art classes in high school, college, and some private group lessons as young adult. More recently, I have gone to some of the popular painting parties where everyone paints the same picture but they all turn out unique and different. I have since found online tutorials that I have enjoyed. Believe it or not, you can paint with no previous experience or lessons. Just click on a video and off you go!

Step by Step Painting with Tracie Kiernan I love this website. Tracie has such pretty and simple projects that are organized for easy browsing. The written directions she gives are simple to follow but she also includes a video so it makes it so easy to follow along. She is very clear about all of the materials that you need for the project. You’ll love the wide variety of projects to choose from. There are some that are for paid members of her website but many are free for anyone.
Click here to take a look at her winter painting tutorials that are available. You are sure to find something that will make you want to pick up a paintbrush! This Hot Cocoa Window is one that I am thinking of doing, and I also love this Hydrangea Painting for springtime. If you are a beginner, I think that her website is the easiest to use and would be the best one to use to become familiar with acrylic painting if it is completely new to you. (Or see the information below about in person acrylic painting lessons as a starting point.)
The Art Sherpa
Click on the photos below to visit The Art Sherpa and to view the tutorial.
The Art Sherpa This website has over 600 free acrylic and watercolor art lessons. There is something for everyone’s taste. You will find that she gives good directions and lets you know the materials you need for each project. She has some videos that are specific about how to paint water, clouds, etc. The lessons are organized so that you can see beginner lessons, 1 Hoot, up to more difficult, 2 or 3 Hoots. They are also organized by holiday, landscape, etc. Or you can do a search.
You can get lost in looking at all of her videos. They are amazing! I would recommend that you watch the one you want to try to get an idea of what you will need and how the painting is done. This Easy Ocean Sunset is so pretty, and she has this really good Beginner Acrylic Painting Course that builds your skills and teaches you all about acrylic painting. Always be sure to check to see which materials you will need before beginning a project.

In Person Group Painting Classes
If you have access to acrylic painting lessons nearby that is certainly a good way to get started. You can learn the basics by going even one time. These can be a little pricey, but all of the materials are provided. This gives you the opportunity to see if acrylic painting is a hobby you enjoy and is worth the investment for materials. This is also a good option if you are too busy or have no space for painting at home. A Google search will find nearby acrylic painting lessons. In addition to art studios, many hobby stores offer lessons. Most businesses will post a calendar on their website containing the paintings they have scheduled so that you can choose one to attend. Invite a friend and try it out! You may surprise yourself!
Enjoy!
