If you have read my previous posts Ten Great Cookbooks to Inspire You in the Kitchen or Looking for New Recipes? Try Out One of These Cookbooks!, then you know how much I enjoy finding new recipes to add to my list of favorites. Some of my very favorite recipes come from local church and community cookbooks as described below.
Church and Community Cookbooks Are Great Sources for Amazing Recipes
I often find that one of the best sources of recipes are church or community cookbooks put together as a fundraiser. The hamburger quiche recipe comes from my local Baptist church cookbook (pictured) that is full of amazing recipes. As a side note, the charming illustrations on the cookbook cover were done by my mom.
If you come across any church cookbooks at a yard sale or book sale, then do not hesitate to snap them up. They are a treasure trove of time honored recipes that you will turn to again and again.
How to Make Hamburger Quiche
Hamburger Quiche
Ingredients
- 1 unbaked regular pie shell (not deep dish)
- ½ lb ground beef
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ½ cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- ⅓ cup chopped onion
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Brown meat and onions with salt and pepper over medium heat. Drain fat from pan and set aside.
- Blend mayonnaise, milk, eggs, and cornstarch in a medium bowl with a whisk until smooth.
- Stir in meat and cheese and pour into an unbaked regular pie shell.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown on top and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
- To avoid spills in the oven, place pie shell on a baking sheet prior to placing in oven.
- NOTE: 1 ½ times this recipe will make 2 quiches.
Hamburger Quiches Are Great for Sharing
As noted in the recipe above, this quiche can be easily doubled. If you are taking food to a new mom or someone who is recovering from a surgery, then this recipe is ideal. Just remember that you will only need to use 1 1/2 times the ingredients to make 2 quiches (with the exception of the pie crusts of course).
Another long time favorite quiche recipe I love is this Chicken Pecan Quiche that can be found on food.com’s website. This is a recipe that I made for a pre wedding dinner when my sister got married. It’s another quiche recipe that is always a big hit.

This sounds delicious! I am wondering how it would turn out without a crust?
Hi! Thanks for your comment. I’ve never made it without a crust before, but I think it would work without it. Let me know how it turns out! ~ Kristin
Kristin, it’s so special that your mom illustrated the cute cover! I love community cookbooks too. I have a few that are sentimental, but I also browse through any that show up at our library’s book sales. I like buying a few cookbooks each sale to try out, and donate them back to the next sale if it’s not a winner for my family. It helps our library too!
Hi! Thanks for your comment and your kind words about my mom’s illustrations. Helping libraries is a cause close to my heart! Finding great cookbooks while supporting the library is a win win!
