Five Ways to Make a Birthday Extra Special
5 Easy Ideas to Make a Birthday Brighter!
Everyone deserves to feel extra special on their birthday. After all, it is always worth celebrating another trip around the sun. Making someone’s birthday brighter doesn’t require a ton of planning or money. Because we like to celebrate the little things in life here at What a Good Day, below are five easy to implement ways to make someone’s birthday shine bright like a cake full of candles!
Birthday Balloons
Everyone loves balloons whether they admit it or not. Surprise the birthday boy or girl with a floor full of balloons! Or you could hang streamers and attach the balloons to them to make a wall of balloons.
If you live with the birthday person, then this is easy to do after they go to bed so it will be waiting on them when they get up. If you want to surprise a friend, then tie some balloons to their front door or anywhere they will be easily visible.
This idea is great for all ages. You don’t have to be a kid to wake up to a balloon surprise!
Birthday Breakfast
For a special birthday treat, start their day with a selection of favorite donuts or pastries. If the birthday person is working, then surprise them with a drop off or have their favorite coffee and pastries delivered to their office.
Or if you love to bake, then whip up a batch of homemade muffins. Need an easy recipe? Check out Karen’s post How to Make My Favorite Blueberry Muffins. Serve in a pretty basket like this one from Amazon that the birthday person can keep. Add some festive napkins tucked in alongside and some coffee or juice to complete the breakfast surprise.

Create a Birthday Ritual
Come up with a fun tradition to do together every year and make it a birthday ritual. Some examples include going on an “adventure” for a child’s birthday or having a special movie night at home. Check out Jamie’s posts 5 Simple Ways to Add Adventure and Excitement to Your Kids’ Lives! and Movie Night Magic: What to Watch This Summer, Snacks, Activities, and More! for inspiration!
Other options are going for a manicure/pedicure, eating at a special restaurant, or taking a fun day trip.
Make Their Favorite Birthday Cake
What better way to show someone how special they are than to make a homemade birthday cake. Whether you bake it from scratch or use a box mix, the gesture will let the birthday person know how much you care.
Not into decorating cakes? No problem! Take inspiration from this birthday cake pictured. It is decorated with sprinkles and meringue kisses. Or you can bake a cake that requires no decorating at all like this recipe in my post How to Make the Easiest and Most Irresistible Chocolate Cake or Karen’s post My Mother’s Chocolate Pound Cake: Oh, So Good!
Provide a Fun Experience as a Birthday Gift
Instead of giving a gift that the recipient may or may not use, why not give a memorable experience for their birthday? Some ideas include going to a concert, taking a cooking class, or visiting a “pick your own” farm for fruit or flowers. For our local readers, check out Bold Spring Blooms for a pick your own flower experience.
Not only does the recipient get the opportunity to enjoy a fun outing, but also they can enjoy some quality time with you. If you have some great ideas for fun experiences to gift, please drop me a comment below!
Make Their Birthday Meaningful with Small Gestures
Small gestures can go a long way. Just by taking some time to deliver a favorite breakfast or bake a homemade birthday cake will show the birthday boy or girl how much they mean to you. Whether you try one or all of the ideas above, please let us know how the recipient liked it. No matter what you choose, hopefully the birthday honoree will say at the end of their birthday “what a good day!”.
Happy Celebrating!
