Five Simple Back to School Celebration Ideas
Countdown Bags Filled with School Supplies (Elementary School Age)
Making these Countdown to School bags could not be easier! Not only does this give your younger school kids a “present” to open, but also it helps build excitement for the first day of school.
Once you have purchased the necessary school supplies, gather up a few small gift bags (or use brown paper lunch sacks). Put one or two school supplies in each bag. Pictured are the ones I made using a set of cute flash cards I found at the dollar store along with the gift bags.
Countdown Bags For Middle School and High School Age Kids
If your school kids are past the elementary school years, then here are a few ideas for a more “grown up” version of countdown to school bags.
Take the same concept for the younger kids described above but use gift bags or envelopes in their school colors. In addition to the basic school supplies an older child needs, here are some additional ideas to include.
Add in a gift card for their favorite after school snack stop or for a fresh haircut for the new school year. You could also include gas money for those driving to school, a gift certificate for a manicure, or money for a new backpack.
Decorate Your House
Put up a few decorations in your house to get those back to school vibes going. To make it super easy, shop your house for items to group together for school themed decorations.
For example, decorate your mantel with books, apples, and a jar filled with pencils. Or make your dining table the focus of your decorating efforts. Make a centerpiece using school supplies and books. Or add a small chalkboard sign and colorful school supplies to your child’s homework desk or area.

Plan a Back to School Meal
Make plans to prepare a special meal the night before school starts. In addition to including your kids’ favorite foods, here are some other ways to add to the celebratory atmosphere.
Make these cute “apple” plates to set the table with for your back to school meal. All you need is some red disposable plates and some green and brown paper. Cut out the leaves from the green paper and the stem from the brown paper. Then tape to the back of the plate.
Be inspired to decorate your table using some of the ideas mentioned above or use your own imagination!
Plan Ahead for a Cute After School Snack
Make plans to serve a cute after school snack when the first day of school wraps up. Pictured is a clipboard covered in a sheet of notebook paper over colorful construction paper which serves as a tray for cookies.
Add the words “you are one smart cookie” to the notebook paper to add pizazz. Make it easy by using store bought cookies or try out Karen’s Best Peanut Butter Cookie Recipe for the homemade touch.
