Five Simple Ways to Make Your Movie Nights More Magical
I love a movie night! My hubby and I used to love to cuddle up with a movie in the evenings before we had children, and now we love to crowd together on the couch to watch movies with our kids. For the last couple years, we’ve been celebrating the fun of movie nights on What A Good Day. In this edition of Movie Night Magic, I’m not focused on a particular movie, but rather I’m going to share some ways to make any movie night more fun and memorable! Read on for five easy ways to make your movie night special!
Make Your Space Fun
I think my love of movie nights comes from spending my weekends camped out in sleeping bags on my brother’s floor. My two brothers and I would all camp out in one room and watch movies before going to sleep. We’d watch, and eat, and talk about the movie, and something about the “slumber party” atmosphere of it just made it so much more fun.
So, when you are planning a movie night, think about your space. Here are some ideas:
- Make it a camp out. Set up one bedroom, or your living room, for everyone to sleep in. Make the movie night part of your family slumber party! You can do this by arranging everyone on couches, dragging in mattresses or sleeping bags, or by setting up an actual tent (if you want to actually go campy).
- Set up outdoors. Buy a mini projector like this one and put together a “drive in movie” type setup in your yard or driveway. I think this is a great idea for families, but it is especially fun with adults who might remember how fun it used to be to go to a drive in movie.
Share Your Favorites
One of the best ways to make a movie night special is to share one of your favorite films with people you love. My husband and I always loved to share our favorites from when we were younger with each other, and we love to share our favorites now with our children. For example, we’ve watched movies like Singin’ in the Rain and Star Wars with our kids and had so much fun!
Start a "Movie Club"
In that same vein of sharing movies with people you love, one thing I’ve always thought would be fun is starting a “movie club” similar to a book club. Maybe monthly, you could go to a movie together or host a movie night at one of your homes. I think using a film as a springboard for conversation would be a great opportunity to help your friend group grow closer in a really fun way.
Make It a Marathon
Another fun way to make movie night special is to make it a movie day with a marathon. One of my favorite memories is the day my husband, two brothers, and I watched the Harry Potter movies as a marathon ahead of the sixth movie premiering at midnight. I’ve also done marathons with the Lord of the Rings movies and the original Star Wars trilogy.
Make it an Event
In our Movie Night Magic posts, we share lots of ways to make a simple movie night into much more. There are a lot of easy ways to do this. Our posts give you ideas about theming your snacks around the movie you’ll be watching, including fun activities in the evening, and even discussing the ideas in the film after watching.
