Confessions on the 7:45 by Lisa Unger
Confessions on the 7:45 (2020) by Lisa Unger is a thriller that will keep you turning pages. It is one to be read carefully so as not to miss anything. There are many twists and turns and when you think you know something, you really don’t. It would be a great book club book and would be loads of fun to discuss. Selena meets a beautiful stranger on the commuter train and the two end up sharing some intimate details of their lives. They part ways to never see each other again but then things start happening that has Selena questioning her encounter and everything in her life. FYI…there is a Netflix series in the works for this one as well!
The Wrong Family by Tarryn Fisher
The Wrong Family (2020) by Tarryn Fisher is a book about secrets and how they can turn lives upside down. Everyone in the story has a secret. From the outside looking in, Juno, a former therapist, believes that Winnie and Nigel have the perfect family and the perfect marriage. When she moves in with the family she realizes that she was very wrong. As everything plays out more and more comes to light. Juno decides to get involved. This book will keep you guessing and wondering how it can all come together in the end. It is one that will make you keep reading to the very last page.
The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn
The Woman in the Window (2018) by A. J. Finn is a thriller that I read for a book club. It was fun to read and even more fun to discuss. It is a thriller in every sense. Anna is an agoraphobic child psychologist dealing with many problems of her own. One night she witnesses a murder while looking out her window into her neighbor’s home. Her life is turned upside down after seeing what looked like a crime and reporting it to the authorities. As the story unfolds she questions her own sanity and becomes more and more involved with the neighbors. It is a book that will keep you wondering throughout about the alleged murder, Anna, and the neighbors. It’s a page turner. This one was made into a movie that is on Netflix.
The Maidens by Alex Michaelides
The Maidens (2022) is by Alex Michaelides. He is also the author of The Silent Patient. If you enjoyed that one you will also enjoy this new thriller. There are some connections within The Maidens to The Silent Patient but it is not necessary to have read it first. The Maidens will keep you guessing to the very end. After a young woman is murdered near Mariana’s niece’s college campus it seems that suspects abound. Mariana goes to the college to be with her niece and becomes caught up in the investigation. She will face many questions, clues, and danger that will have the reader guessing who the murderer might possibly be. It gets a bit slow at times but ends by wrapping up all the loose ends that exist throughout the story. This one is set to become a limited tv series.
Defending Jacob by William Landay
Defending Jacob (2013) by William Landay is a thriller that I read several years ago. I remember that it impacted me strongly and I continued to think about it long after I had finished it. It truly kept me guessing and the ending blew me away. Andy Barber is a district attorney with a beautiful and happy family. But when a murder happens in their neighborhood and their son, Jacob, is charged, their wonderful life is threatened. Andy defends his son with full belief in his son’s innocence though it threatens to tear them all apart. This book is a legal thriller with a trial for the murder but it moves along well. It is one that will keep you guessing about Jacob and the ending is one I doubt that you will see coming. Defending Jacob is also a mini series that can be viewed on Apple TV.
