Family Fun Activites for a Spectacular Spring
Spring is the perfect time to plan for some family fun and togetherness. This post is packed full of some wonderful ways to have a great day and make some lasting memories. There’s even a free printable that lists 30 family activities so that you can easily choose something fun to do with one glance! If you like, add stickers or highlight the activities you want to do and go ahead and put them on your calendar. Spending time together should be intentional or it may not happen with all that life throws our way. Now, let’s get ready to have some family fun days!
Simple Family Fun Activities at Home
Create an Outdoor Fun Box: Get a box, basket, or plastic bin that you can easily store. Head to a dollar store and purchase a few items for outdoor play or fill it with items you have at home. Suggested items: sidewalk chalk, bubbles, a variety of balls, jump rope, small cars/trucks, horseshoes, ring toss, etc. There are so many options. Keep it handy for some happy outdoor play time.
Play Classic Outdoor Games Together: Remember the games that you played as a child? Celebrate those classic games with your kids. Examples include: Hopscotch, Freeze Tag, Hide and Seek, Kick the Can, London Bridge, Ring Around the Rosie, Red Light/Green Light, and more. These games usually require very little equipment and are easy to do. This post, 35 Classic Backyard Games for Kids to Play from mommypoppins.com, will keep everyone active and laughing.
Enjoy Doing Outdoor Jobs Together: Enjoy time together while also getting things done in the yard. Examples are: planting flowers or vegetable plants, washing the car, watering plants, or feeding the birds. Check out this post about how something simple like feeding birds can grow some extra special memories.
Outdoor Fun and Food
Enjoy Food and Fun Outdoors: There are many ways to enjoy some outdoor fun and food together. Here are just a few: make homemade ice cream (click here for an easy chocolate frosty recipe!), have a Hawaiian themed outdoor snack “party”, have a lemonade or tea party outside, have story time outside and enjoy popsicles while listening, have a teddy bear picnic (check out this post for ideas), or have hotdogs & make s’mores around the fire pit.
Day Tripping
Plan for a Day Trip: These are a few suggestions here in northeast Georgia for family day trips. Check your local area for family activities that are nearby. Some fun day trips might include: visiting a nearby state park (many have family programs and activities), going on a hike or picnic (or both!), visiting a strawberry farm to pick some, going to a zoo, walking through a botanical garden.
More Fun at Home
Here are a few more activities to do at home that may require some planning or other equipment.
Water or Sand Play: provide a small tub of water or a small pool with lots of cups, bowls, dippers, etc. and let them enjoy some water play. Having a sandbox or low sided tub with sand is such fun for children. Did you know that Home Depot has sand for playing? It’s inexpensive and can provide hours of fun. Just provide some plastic animals, sand toys, trucks, etc.
Stargazing: on a clear night spread out a blanket and enjoy looking at the stars. There’s a great app called SkyView that helps to identify the stars, planets, and constellations. The Lite version is free and works great!
Clover Fun: have fun sitting in the clover looking for four leaf clovers and making clover chains for necklaces, bracelets or crowns.
Grow Your Own Butterflies: Check out this post for all of the information needed for this amazing activity.
Paper Airplanes or Kites: Make paper airplanes and fly them outside to see how far they will go. Or fly a kite together.
Ride Bikes or Riding Toys: Spring is a great time for this. Have a parade!
Outdoor Games and Sports: Get some equipment to play badminton, cornhole, croquet, or putt putt. Provide balls for playing baseball, catch, soccer, kickball, dodgeball, etc. Here is a set that includes equipment to play 5 different outdoor games.
