Everything You Need to Outfit Your Little Adventurer!
Our family loves to go on outdoor adventures! We love hiking, biking, and exploring new places. So, last year at Christmas, we got each of our kids an “Adventure Kit.” Each kit has the perfect collection of items for adventuring. We carry these with us wherever we go, and it has been so much fun to watch them learn to be resourceful and learn to explore the world around them. And if you don’t do hiking, you can theme your kids packs for the beach, for road trips, around a sport you all play, or for whatever you do as a family. I promise it’s something your kids will love!

First: The Perfect Pack
If you want to make an adventure kit for your kiddos, you have to start with the backpack. Initially, we went with this cute little backpack by Mountaintop Kids. It’s well-made and sturdy, small enough for most toddlers and young kids, and has the perfect amount of pockets. And it comes in so many cute colors!
If your kids are older, I love this day pack by Osprey. Osprey is one of the most popular hiking brands. It’s a little more pricey, but Osprey makes their packs so durable, your kids can use it forever. I really love that you have the option to add a hydration insert for easy water drinking if you choose. It comes in three fun colors. I love the green!
We recently upgraded to this pack by REI (pictured left) for my oldest son, and he loves it! We love REI as a company and they have the best outdoor gear for whatever you’re into.
Essentials for a Kid's Adventure Kit
First, every kid needs a great water bottle. We have several different kinds, but this one by Contigo is my favorite. It comes apart easily and all the parts are dishwasher safe. It comes in fun colors and patterns, has an easy pop-open soft spout, and is the perfect size for little hands.
I also recommend every kid carry a flashlight and a safety whistle when hiking or exploring. When young, they wouldn’t be out of your sight anyway, but it is a good idea to teach important safety habits for the outdoors when they are young. We picked up a flashlight at Walmart. My kids have this safety whistle, and they know to use it if ever they are lost or in trouble.
I also recommend a good rain jacket. My kids have this one that is reasonably-priced and comes in lots of great colors. But any basic rain jacket will do. You can find them easily this time of the year.
Fun Items for Exploring
