Beautiful Ways to Bring the Beach Home
The seashore has always been my place of peace and sheer joy. It makes me think of the vastness of the earth, the beauty that we have here to fill our eyes and souls, and the priceless memories of times passed with loved ones. Since I do not live on or near the beach, I like to have some small touches to bring the beach into my home and my daily life. It’s nothing overwhelming and probably not even something most people would notice but it is there for me to enjoy and a way that I can keep the beach with me. If you do love or enjoy your time at the beach, I highly recommend adding some touches to your personal space to help bring the beach home.
Special Pictures of Family or Scenery
If you are like me, you have thousands of wonderful beach pictures that are tucked away in boxes, in photo albums, or saved digitally. It is a great idea to pull out some of those photos and display them so that they can be enjoyed and bring back memories of beach trips enjoyed with family and friends. The one pictured above was made by a photographer on a recent family trip. This one has been made into a canvas and is one of my favorite beach pictures. I love all the feelings I have when I look at this picture. There are other photos in frames that are in various places in my home that also are dear to my heart.
Sand and Shells
Another way to bring the beach home is to create a pretty display of your beautiful shells, rocks, coral, sand dollars, etc. that you have collected on trips. You can even bring home some beach sand to dry out and add to the display. I like to keep some shells from our many trips in different containers in my bathrooms. Also, adding a candle to the display adds a pretty touch. I was recently at a friend’s house and noticed her pretty bowl of shells on a shelf in her kitchen and it made me smile. Another great idea is to start a sand jar to add a layer of sand to from every beach you visit. I so wish I had done that years ago!
Beach Decor or Bedding
I love beachy colors as well. They are so soothing, relaxing, and pretty. You can easily incorporate those kinds of colors into to your home decorating. There is so much to choose from that is tasteful and brings tones of the beach without being too much. The items shown above are found on Amazon, but other small decorative touches for the home can be found in most any department or home decorating store.
Sentimental Keepsakes
I love to bring home a sentimental keepsake from my travels. It might be a piece of jewelry that represents the location, a decorative piece, a book, etc. One of my favorite sentimental keepsakes from my trips has been Christmas ornaments. I will always buy one ornament at every location I visit to bring home. In addition, sometimes if I have a favorite picture I have it made into an ornament. I love getting them out and putting them on my Christmas tree every year. It is a tradition that I am so thankful I started long ago.
Beach Day at Home
So many of my oceanside memories include fun with my children, and now my grandchildren, at the beach. Another way to bring the beach home is to plan a family fun “Beach Day” at home. Plan many of the things you traditionally do at the beach but find ways to modify them for home. Enjoy some water play even if it is sprinkler fun or playing in a small pool. Home Depot has cheap bags of sand that you can use to create a little beach area for sand play. For adventure, tell pirate stories and have a treasure hunt in the backyard with a map where X marks the spot. Spread out beach towels and enjoy refreshing snacks, cool drinks, or popsicles. Be sure to play some games using a beach ball. The day will be fun and memorable for all!
Bring Your Happy Place Home
This photo was taken on the morning that I left the beach this summer to head home. I love to get that last view and a last picture until next time. Wherever you love to travel or visit I hope you will find ways to bring the joy and feelings that you feel there home with you. It will truly bring you joy!
Wishing you good days!
