A Sweet and Simple Old-Fashioned Fruit Cobbler Recipe
This old fashioned fruit cobbler recipe is one that my mother gave me years ago. The paper it is written on is yellowed and stained. The writing on the paper is smudged and faded. I have had this recipe and used it for over 45 years. It is simple to make and turns out so good every time. It is incredibly versatile because you can use any fruit you would like in the recipe and the fruit can be fresh, frozen, or canned and turn out delicious!
Ingredients for Easy Fruit Cobbler Recipe
You only need a few ingredients for your fruit cobbler!
- 1 stick of butter or margerine (I use butter but you can use margerine if you prefer.)
- 1 cup self rising flour (do not use plain flour) I don’t sift mine but you can if you would like to.
- 1 cup of sugar
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 20 oz can of fruit (no need to drain), or 2.5 cups of fresh or frozen fruit peeled and cut in pieces as needed
Directions for Easy Fruit Cobbler Recipe
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. While it’s heating put your butter in your baking dish and let it melt. I use an 8 X 8 baking dish (like this one) because I like mine thicker but you can use another size just be sure to adjust your baking time so that it doesn’t over cook. While your butter is melting whisk together the sugar, flour, and milk until it is well mixed.
Take out the dish with the melted butter and pour the flour, sugar, milk mixture into the dish but do not stir or mix it. Pour it in all over the butter. Next pour in your fruit but do not mix it. Just pour it and move it around to have it evenly placed around in the mixture. Do not stir! Now put it in your oven and cook it for 45 minutes.
After 45 minutes remove it from the oven and sprinkle some additional sugar over the crust covering it well but not too thick. I usually use around 1/4 cup. Return the cobbler to the oven for 10 more minutes. As you can see, the crust rises to the top and the fruit spreads throughout the mixture.
Serve on dessert plates topped with ice cream. Enjoy!
