A Few Favorite Things You’ll Love for Wintertime
What a good day to find some favorite things to make winter more enjoyable!
In winter, do you feel you need more of everything? I know that I do. More clothes, more skin care items, more blankets, more hours of daylight! In this post we have put together a few of our favorite things that help us not only get through the winter months, but love them. Hopefully, you will find something here that will help you have a good day no matter how cold or gray it may be outside.

Favorite Winter Personal Care
Lips and Face
Estee Lauder Day Wear Moisturizer – Dry skin on your face can be a major irritation, so a good moisturizer is so important. The key is finding one that works for your skin. I love Estee Lauder’s Day Wear Moisturizer. It doesn’t feel greasy, but it hydrates my skin and solves my issue of winter dryness. Estee Lauder has an entire line of moisturizers for all skin types, so find the one that works for you! I usually purchase mine from Belk or Macy’s, but you can also order online.
Chapstick Total Hydration 3 in 1 Lip Care Soothing Oasis – Chapped lips are such a problem in winter. Consequently, I have tried many kinds of lip balm and lip conditioners. This one is my remedy. I love that this one isn’t flavored and doesn’t have that weird waxy taste. It covers well, but is not thick; goes on smoothly and stays on for a good amount of time. Thankfully, it is not expensive so I can have one in my purse, car, and on my nightstand. It’s a winner!
Hands
doTERRA Spa Citrus Bliss Hand Lotion – With all the hand-washing we do, lotion is a necessity! If you don’t like a heavy cream feeling left on your hands, this cream is perfect. It has a nice, light citrusy scent, is non-greasy, and absorbs well. I love this one for daytime use. I have provided a link or you can see a doTerra representative in your area.
Burt’s Bees Almond Milk Hand Cream – This nourishing cream is thick and creamy, and has a very subtle scent. It stays on your hands and is a good one to use at night. If you want to wear some soft gloves at night with this cream your hands will feel so soft and smooth in the morning. This cream really helps very dry hands. I have this Burt’s Bees Hand Repair Gift Set (which includes this cream, cuticle cream, hand repair and soft gloves) from Amazon and it has saved my hands this winter!
Bath and Body Works Anti-bacterial Hand Spray – This light hand sanitizer is small enough to keep in your purse or car to have handy when needed. Just spritz it on and rub. It comes in several different scents but my favorite is Sunshine and Lemons. It’s very refreshing; like a touch of summer on your hands!
Body
Hot tea – Tea is so tasty, good for you, and will warm you right up on a cold day! Moreover, there are so many varieties that you can enjoy, some with caffeine and some without. Take a look at our Tea Time post about different kinds of tea that we enjoy. You’re sure to find one you will enjoy that will be the perfect treat to get rid of the chills!
Electric Heated Blanket Throw – When you are chilly or your feet are freezing off, this is your ticket to comfort. A link is provided but you can find them online and in department stores to choose your choice of color and material. Most measure 50′ X 60″. The perfect size for snuggling up on the couch. While they may vary in price, they all heat up and will keep you toasty warm while you read or watch tv. An electric heated blanket is a must have for winter time, especially if you are cold-natured.
Favorite Winter Wearables
Fleece Lined Leggings – We love these fleece lined leggings by Amazon. They are cozy, comfortable, and stylish! Whether you are braving the cold for a winter drive or hike, or snuggling up with a good book or binge-worthy show, these will keep you warm on the coldest days. They offer styles in many colors and with or without pockets. The link will take you to Jamie’s favorite style from this year, but you can search for other brands.
Winter Weather Shoes – It’s hard to find fashionable shoes for rainy and snowy weather, but these boots fit the bill, and they won’t break your piggybank. At around $50, they are some of the most affordable boots out there that still manage to offer warmth and comfort. They fit true to size for me, and they are cute! There are several different color schemes, so you can find one to fit your wardrobe and personal style.
Columbia Benton Springs Jacket – Columbia products hold up so well and are well made. This jacket is no exception. It is the prefect weight for layering for the cold or wearing alone on cooler days. The fleece is very soft and not bulky. For casual wear, hiking, or just going out on errands you will grab for this jacket over and over. It’s doubtful that it would work well in very cold climates but for more temperate areas it is plenty. Another plus is that it comes in many sizes and an amazing number of colors! Please note a link is provided above but a quick Google search may help you find a lower price!
Isotoner Gloves – In winter, I am seldom seen outdoors without my Isotoner gloves. The ones I have are fleece lined leather and look very stylish. They are well made and keep my hands toasty warm. Conveniently, this pair works on touch screens. They work on my car touchscreen and on my phone. I cannot text well with them on but I can open my phone or answer a call.
Favorite Winter Pastimes
Reading
Kindle – Winter is such a good time to catch up on reading. One of the most handy items to have is a Kindle. I love mine! There was a bit of a learning curve when I first got it but now it is one of my favorite things. Fortunately, I can also switch from reading on my phone away from home to my Kindle at home and it moves to my current page. It is small, lightweight, and keeps me from running down the battery in my phone. The Kindle battery stays charged for a very long time even with use. I was given mine as a gift for Christmas one year and I am so glad that I have it.
Magnolia Journal or Victoria – Beautiful magazines are one way to beat the winter blues. The lovely pictures and articles in these magazines are a sure pick me up. Magnolia Journal is Joanna Gaines publication. If you enjoy her television show or cookbooks you will love this one.
Victoria has been in publication for many years. It is filled with inspiration for gracious living, beautiful photography of homes and gardens, entertaining ideas, places to visit, and women owned businesses.
Movies and Television
When it is dark and cold outside, what a great time for movie nights or for watching a series through your television provider or a streaming service. Luckily, many streaming services offer free trials so that you can try them before paying for them. Do a little research to find something new to watch or an old favorite to enjoy. Some of our favorites are old classic shows like Perry Mason or Andy Griffith. Our favorite streaming services for new series to binge watch are Netflix, Disney Plus, Prime Video, and CBS All Access.
Needlework
Needlepoint kit – Winter is a good time to pick up an old hobby or learn a new one. Needlepoint has been around for centuries; all the way back to the ancient Egyptians! It is not difficult, is very relaxing and the finished products are beautiful! Needlepoint kits can be found at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and online. Those long hours of darkness can result in a beautiful pillow or framed piece. I do recommend that if you are a beginner to start with a small, simple design to see how you like it and check out this video on Youtube.
Counted Cross Stitch – Another form of needlework, counted cross stitch results in beautiful finished pieces. It differs from needlepoint in that the work is done on cross stitch fabric. You can buy complete kits at hobby stores and online. Many free patterns can be found online with a quick Google search but you’ll need to get the materials required. A great site for free patterns is Country Living Magazine. Check out the many cute projects available.
Scrapbooking
During winter we like to take all of our pictures from the previous year and do some creative work in scrapbooking. It is so much fun to organize, embellish and have all your special pictures kept safe in photo journals. You can get necessary supplies online or at hobby stores. It is a fun pastime that will result in beautiful photo books that will become special keepsakes. If you are new to scrapbooking, The Spruce Crafts has a nice list of supplies needed and other articles that will give all the information needed to get started.
There are so many great products that we can use during winter to help our skin, to keep us warm, or to help us pass the time. Perhaps you have found a new one to try in this post. We would love to know some of your favorite things that help you make everyday a good day in winter. Please share your favorite winter products with us in a comment below! Stay warm!
Have a good day!
