Five Inexpensive and Easy Ways to Spruce Up Your Kitchen
Looking for a few inexpensive and easy ways to spruce up your kitchen space? Here are five things that you can do on a limited budget to make your kitchen more homey and eye appealing. It’s such fun to take a space like your kitchen and do a little makeover to give it and yourself a boost. It’s always a good day to make your kitchen a happy place!
Add Pops of Color!
There are many affordable products available to add some color or pizzazz to your kitchen space. Paint is always a good option. Fortunately, you don’t have to paint your whole kitchen. You can paint your island, just one wall, bar stools, or old table and chairs. In addition, there are many other DIY products like peel and stick tile, countertop paper, faux wall paneling, or countertop refinishing kits that can perk up a drab kitchen. You can find these items online at Wayfair, or at Home Depot, or other home decorating stores. I have painted my kitchen cabinets and added new hardware to them. My daughter and her husband painted their table and chairs. So far, I have not yet tried the other DIY products mentioned. I’ll update this post if I do.
Bring in Plants, Flowers, or Fruit & Veggies
Plants, flowers, fruit, or vegetables really bring any kitchen space to life. They add a fresh feeling that you can’t get any other way. Perhaps begin by adding one plant, a bowl of fruit or vegetables, or even a small artificial flower arrangement to brighten up the sink. For convenience, I like to have any fruit or veggies that don’t need to be refrigerated out in a big bowl (like this one) on my counter. It is pretty and decorative, but as an added bonus, I have found I will use the fruit/veggies and not let anything go to waste if it is where I can see it. Unfortunately, many times fruit or veggies are wasted because it’s “out of sight, out of mind.” So this serves two purposes! It’s pretty and freshens up the kitchen as well as helping me to eat healthier.
Say it with signs!
Farm house design is very popular right now. There are many decorative signs that you can get at places like Hobby Lobby, Kirklands, Amazon, etc. that are perfect for kitchen decor and will speak to your heart every time you look at them. Luckily, if you have a particular Bible verse, or family quote that is meaningful and dear to you it is easy to find people who make signs or you can special order one on Etsy. Furthermore, chalkboards are a great way to decorate if you like to be a bit more creative and artsy!
Display Family Photos
Warm up, personalize, and spruce up your kitchen by decorating with family photos, a photo collage, or other photo displays. Use photos from special occasions such as birthdays, baking cookies, cooking together, family dinners, recipes from family, etc. These additions will bring joy and heartwarming memories every time you see them. My daughter gives Pop and me a mug (pictured above) every year with photos of the grands on it from special times during the year (available from Shutterfly). We love having them displayed so that we can enjoy those precious photos. Now, just pick out a few favorite photos and create a family wall or creative display in your kitchen. I promise you will love it!
Decorate with Antique or Unique Items
Keep your eyes open for unique, vintage, or antique decorative pieces that can be used in your kitchen. A few of these types of simple additions will add interest and become great discussion items for visitors to your kitchen. Of course, antique and vintage items that once belonged to family members are special keepsakes to display in your kitchen. Also, additional vintage items can be found at yard sales, estate sales, antique shops, etc. Many unique and unusual items can be found in online shops or stores like Kirklands, Michaels, Wayfair, Pottery Barn, Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc.
One more suggestion!
If this post has inspired you to try a few of these ideas to spruce up your kitchen space then I have one more suggestion. Take your time and think carefully about how your choices will fit in with your current decor. It is best to add a few items at a time and then decide where you need another touch. I hope you will have fun and find ways to make your space reflect your personality, and the people and things you love!
