Insanely Helpful Tools for Meeting Your Health Goals
There is an old English Proverb which states, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy and wealthy and wise.” While your schedule might not be conducive to waking up with the sun and retiring early, that isn’t really the main point of this saying. It’s about good habits and the results they yield. So, if you’re like me, sometimes you just feel like you need a fresh start, like your old habits aren’t working for you to help you reach your goals. Anytime is the right time to set a goal, make a plan, and pursue growth. So, in each post in this series, I’ll be sharing some tools to help you achieve all your goals in one of these areas: health, finance, or intellectual growth. This post focuses on our health.
Goal: Better Health
Good health is important, so it is not surprising that many personal goals center around it. My own personal goals for health currently center around getting regular exercise and improving my emotional health. So, here is what I’m using and loving right now!
First Pick for Health Goals: FitOn
For exercise, I’ve been using an app called FitOn for over two years. I am not exaggerating when I say it is a game-changer. The app offers hundreds of workout videos from real trainers. Whether you like HIIT, dance, pilates, weights, yoga, cardio, seriously whatever you like, this app has it all! And the best part is the app allows you to set your own exercise goal, whether you want to lose weight, build muscle, tone up, or just be more fit in general.
You can customize how many workouts you want per week. Every week you’ll get new workout suggestions to keep you moving forward. You can always choose workouts on your own by using the intuitive search options the app offers, but I found the weekly list of workouts helped me stay motivated and meet my goal every week.
At this point, I enjoy exercising every week because this app makes planning for it so easy. Also, because it’s an app, I can access my workouts anywhere I am. And y’all, it is FREE! They do offer a paid version with meal plans and lots of cool bells and whistles for your workouts, but I’ve stuck with the free version so far. You get so much in just the free app. You can get it here.
Second Pick for Health Goals: Shine
At the beginning of January 2021, I started using an app called Shine. I had struggled with anxiety and stress management for the previous few months, and I realized I needed to work on myself to find opportunities to be grateful and happy each day. I’m so glad I found this app! Every day the app offers me a new “Daily Shine,” which consists of a meditation or pep-talk and then a short reflective journal topic.
The app makes self care so quick and easy. It really helps me to focus on what matters most to me personally. Also, the topics are general enough that they could apply to anyone, but the way they are written somehow makes them feel personal. I do my “Shine” every night before bed, but it would be great to start the day or as an after-work boost as well. I used the free version for a while before upgrading to premium. You can get it here.
