Five Thrilling Mysteries for More Thrills this Fall
If you are a fan of suspense, unexpected twists, and mysteries you can’t put down then I have a few for you! Here are five thriller mystery novels that will keep you reading from the very first page and you’ll be thinking about them even when the story is over.
Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica
This tale of disappearances will keep you guessing. In a quiet suburban neighborhood, one woman disappears without a trace. Soon after another woman and her child disappear leaving everyone in shock. The story opens eleven years after the disappearances with an unexpected appearance of the missing child. Told by Meredith, one of the missing women, Leo, Meredith’s son, and Kate, their neighbor, the varying perspectives, secrets, and connections between the characters make for a thought provoking story. Be aware that parts of this book are intense with descriptions of child abuse and other violent acts.
We Were Never Here by Andrea Bartz
Emily and Kristen are best friends on a backpacking trip in Chile. Kristen meets a young man whom she takes back to their room. When Emily returns she finds the young man dead in the room with Kristen saying she was attacked and acted in self defense. Emily questions this because a similar incident happened the year before on another trip. The two women hide the murder, but back in the states Emily has trouble getting past all that happened. The rest of the story is a rollercoaster ride of thrills. Ultimately, the ending will leave you questioning what you thought you knew.
The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden
This was the first book I had read by this author but after this one I will be reading more. This story grabs hold and doesn’t let go until the end. There are many twists and turns and incidents that will take you on an emotional ride. Millie has reached the end of her rope when she lands a job as a housemaid for the wealthy Winchester family. Nina welcomes her and the wild ride begins. Millie is given a tiny room in the attic to live in and she is thankful. However, Nina tends to be difficult and unhinged while Andrew, her husband, is very understanding and helpful. Soon Millie finds herself in a terrifying situation with no way out. How will Millie find a way out?
The House in the Pines by Ana Reyes
When Maya was in high school her best friend, Aubrey, died suddenly and unexpectedly in the company of a man named Frank. Now, years later. Maya sees a YouTube video that shows a young woman fall dead in a restaurant in the company of that same man. Maya travels home to find out what actually happened to that young woman, and ultimately, to her friend. As she confronts old memories and tries to make sense of it all she knows that she will have to make her way back to Frank’s house in the pines to solve the mystery. This one isn’t full of twists and turns but does keep you questioning what is really going on as the author weaves the story.
The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley
I have read several Lucy Foley books and she does not disappoint. The main character, Jess, is down on her luck and needs a place to stay. She calls her brother and works out to stay with him at his apartment in Paris. When she arrives her brother is not there and does not show up as she expected. The people in the apartment building are not helpful and she knows they are hiding something. Her investigating leads her to become entangled in a web of lies and deceit that keep her and the reader guessing to the surprise ending.
