Rachel’s Bold Chex Mix Recipe: A Holiday Tradition I Love!
My grandmother was incredibly special to me, and I think she is one of the reasons I love the holidays so much. She always loved Thanksgiving and Christmas, and she would cook amazing meals, make punch, and whip up delicious desserts too! But my favorite thing she made was this Chex mix. It was the perfect snack! She would begin making it around Thanksgiving and keep it made all through Christmas and until the New Year for everyone to enjoy. Now, every year I do the same, and it makes me feel like I’m celebrating with her still and passing on this family tradition to my children. I hope you’ll enjoy it too!
Rachel's Chex Mix
Ingredients
List of Ingredients
- 4 cups Rice Chex
- 4 cups Corn Chex
- 2 cups Cheerios
- 2 cups Cheez-its
- 1 cup Pretzels (any type you like)
- 1 cup Mixed Nuts
- 1 cup Pecans
- 1 stick of Butter
- 4 TBSP Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 TSP Salt
- 1 TSP Garlic Powder
- 2 TSP Creole Seasoning (or to taste)
Instructions and Suggestions
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 250 degrees.
- While the oven preheats, mix together your dry ingredients (Rice Chex, Corn Chex, Cheerios, Pretzels, Cheez-Its, Mixed Nuts, and Pecans) together in a large bowl.
- Mix your wet ingredients and seasonings (butter, Worcestershire Sauce, Salt, Garlic Powder, Creole Seasoning) together into a measuring cup.
- Pour your wet ingredients over your dry ingredients and mix together completely.
- Spread out the mixture on baking sheets and place in the oven to bake for an hour.
- Every 15 minutes, take the mix out of the oven and remix so that none of it sticks to the pan and the mix toasts evenly.
- After baking, allow the mix to cool.
- Bag it up or place in a large bowl for everyone to enjoy!
Suggestions:
- Line your baking sheets with aluminum foil for easy clean up.
- If you like less kick, use only 1 TSP of creole seasoning. If you like more kick, add another TSP.
- You can also swap out the garlic powder for onion powder for a different flavor or add more garlic powder if you really like garlic.
A Family Tradition
Making this Chex mix every year makes me feel close to my grandmother again. It’s such a fun way to hang onto the good memories and pass down that love to my own family as they grow.
I hope that making it is a fun experience for your family and that you enjoy snacking on it all through the holidays!
