Five Fantastic Favors Your Party Guests Will Love!
Party Favor Ideas to Add That Extra Detail
Set your next party apart with these party favor ideas! Unique party favors are a simple way to add a personal touch to your next event. They are also a great way to convey to your guests how much their presence at your party means to you. To qualify as a fantastic party favor, it does not require tons of money or effort. The golden rule to keep in mind is that a party favor should be small, practical, and meaningful.
I firmly believe that you should not do favors for your party just for the sake of having them. In my opinion, no favors at all is better than something that no one would use. So, how do you come up with an idea for a unique party favor idea that people will love and use?
Tips on Choosing the Perfect Favor
Here are a few guidelines you can use when selecting a party favor. Keep in mind that party favors are optional, but they are a nice detail that will make the difference in your guests’ party experience.
- Focus on the occasion you are celebrating. What is something that would be meaningful and relevant? An example would be giving out a Christmas ornament as a holiday party favor.
- If you are using a theme for your event, then tie in the party favor to that theme. I once hosted a “Sugar and Spice…that’s what little girls are made of” baby shower. The party favor was one sugar cookie and one spiced cookie packaged up with a coordinating ribbon.
- What particular interests/hobbies does your guest of honor have? If that person loves cooking, then give out a cooking utensil or small recipe book for example.

Something to Challenge Your Brain
You may remember our guest post from Tina at Crafted Living on handmade birthday cards (see her guest post here). Tina also creates word search puzzles, and I love this idea for a party favor!
It’s a great idea for any age. This is perfect for a non-toy favor for children’s parties. It also works well for adults, because who doesn’t love a word search puzzle?
Check out her Etsy shop CraftedLiving to see the variety of word searches available. The one pictured featuring spring-related words is perfect for this time of year.
Something to Plant
Taking home something to plant is a more lasting reminder of the party. If you are hosting an Italian themed dinner party or garden party, a potted herb plant makes an awesome party favor.
For my sister’s wedding favors, we made silk envelope style pouches and filled each one with a packet of seeds. Not only did the seeds serve as a favor, but also the pouch worked as a bonus favor. They were perfect for storing jewelry.
One other idea I found is called Tree in a Box. It is a kit that allows you to grow your own tree. These would be perfect favors for any occasion from weddings to birthday parties. You can find out more details here.
Something to Eat
Food favors always work well. A lot of people like consumable gifts, so they don’t have to find somewhere to put it. You can tailor the food favor any number of ways. In the example pictured are handmade chocolates embossed with horses. These were favors for my most recent milestone birthday party, and I loved them for two reasons…chocolate and horses!
You can also find cute boxes that guests can take home slices of pie or cake. I found tons of fun options on Etsy here. These are also a great way to help you find homes for leftovers. Another option is to buy plain boxes like these kraft brown paper take out boxes. Then you can decorate them with ribbon, washi tape, or decorative paper.
Something to Read
Books make amazing favors. There are a variety of ways you can use books as your party favors. If you are throwing a birthday party for kids, then hand out a children’s book to each of the guests.
Hosting a book club Christmas party? Then a book is the perfect favor. Or if you are holding a literary themed wedding, then send guests home with copies of your favorite book.
The tiny books pictured are actually candy taped to card stock with printed “pages” glued on top with ribbon bookmarks. Served in an old fashioned card catalog drawer and labeled with a library check out card made these ideal for our local librarian’s retirement party.
Something to Bring Joy
Here is an idea that will serve as the party theme, activity, and favor all in one. Try hosting a party where you gather your friends to make floral bouquets. Then when the party is over, the guests get to take home their finished bouquet and enjoy fresh flowers.
Another fun idea is custom sprinkles. These are a fun party favor idea, since guests get to take them home and make festive treats later. After doing some online research, I found there are sprinkles for just about any occasion.
Unicorn sprinkles would be perfect for a kids’ birthday party. You can also do ones that are bridal shower themed, ice cream cones for an ice cream social, or even cactus shaped sprinkles for a fiesta themed party. Here is the link to Etsy where I found tons of options. After all, sprinkles shout joy!
